JASON RIETZE & LOUISE DUKE
"Valuing the things that matter"
Jason Rietze and Louise Duke, Investment Advisors, TD Wealth Private Investment Advice, have seen a lot in their years in the financial industry: market ups and downs, the unique and complex financial challenges associated with high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth clients, and they’ve seen firsthand the impact their caring, passionate approach can have on clients.
It all starts in their first meeting with a client because Jason and Louise recognize that every financial success story begins with strong, honest, and transparent communication. They want to get to know each client’s story, understand what motivates them, and learn what their financial goals are. It also explores what they value most.
“While investments brought us together, it isn’t something we’ll discuss in our first meeting,” Louise said. “We first need to understand what’s important to them, what do they want to do with their money, how does their wealth fit into their life, and what sort of legacy do they want to leave behind? It may feel like an interview, but it’s crucial that our recommendations align with their needs.”
Their exploratory process is vital because Jason and Louise are always seeking to bridge values and goals to ensure that a client is fully connected to, and fully invested in, their financial strategy.
Building Bridges
For the bulk of their careers, Jason and Louise have been practicing wealth management as independents, but when the conversations about a potential collaboration started, they each realized it made sense.
They share similar values and recognize the importance of transparency and relationship-building in wealth management.
Another trait Jason and Louise share, along with many of their clients, is discipline. It’s been said so often that it’s almost become a parody, but discipline in finance and investment is paramount to success.
Another reason their practice is thriving is because, while Jason and Louise’s values are similar, they are each bringing a unique skill set to the table. Jason is skilled at investment management and running models. He makes sure that the solutions they offer are custom-tailored and match a client’s specific needs. Louise is skilled at retirement and estate planning strategies, and at ensuring maximum tax efficiency. Working together is allowing Jason and Louise to remain laser-focused and provide maximum value to clients.
Jason and Louise are also acutely sensitive to client needs and recognize when internal and external specialists are needed for client success. “If we don’t have the answer, we’ll say so,” Jason said. “It isn’t possible to know everything, and you often can’t solve extremely complex issues without involving professionals from other disciplines. Clients appreciate our comprehensive approach and our honesty. We’ll tell it like it is, even if the news is tough, and work with the client through it all.”
Jason also shared a client testimonial that he’s reflected on and encapsulates his ability to connect with people: "He provides well-referenced insights and frequent updates to keep us apprised on regional and worldwide economic matters, that may impact (good or bad) global markets. In summary, we have trusted Jason and staff with managing our portfolio over the years and will continue to do so.” (Daniel McCormack, February 27, 2024)*
Caring for people
Many might think that Jason and Louise’s business is almost completely about money; it’s one factor, certainly, but it isn’t the prime mover of what they do: it’s people. Everything they do revolves around the unique individuals they serve, and they will strive to ensure they are providing the best possible customer service.
Jason and Louise’s approach to supporting clients extends to their communities as well. Jason has spent nearly two decades coaching minor hockey and has served on several boards that support minor hockey.
“You know, I learned pretty early on being active in athletics that you might fail, but you can’t ever quit,” Jason said. “What you have to measure is how you responded to the failure – and, what you learned from it. There are wins and there are lessons. You only lose if you fail to learn.”
For her part, Louise also served many years managing and coaching youth teams when her boys were involved in sports growing up and she is thrilled that now these friends of her children are coming to see her for financial advice. She feels as though she’s supporting the financial growth of her community by supporting its young people’s financial futures.
“I am so excited to be working with so many young people to explore what their lives could look like down the road. Empowering them with knowledge and encouraging them to think about the type of person they want to be, and the type of life they want to live is so incredibly fulfilling. I think that our society is in great hands with the next generation of leaders.”
Jason and Louise are striving to make a difference: to clients, to their families, to their communities, and so much more. Their passion for, and commitment to, their work is undeniable and is present in every single conversation with them, every interaction.
They want to make things better for everyone.
